Is Lugbe a good place to stay in Abuja? A guide for short stays near the airport
The short answer
Lugbe works best if your plans sit on the airport side of Abuja: an early flight, a family event, or a programme at Dunamis Glory Dome. It has a cheap-rent reputation, so which street and which estate you stay in matters more than the name of the district. Here is what to expect.
Where Lugbe is
Lugbe sits on the Airport Road, the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua Expressway, south-west of the city centre, between the airport and the city. The FHA Lugbe estate is inside it. The Airport Road widening, 26.5 km from City Gate to Bill Clinton Drive, was finished in 2014, so the main road in and out is a wide expressway.
How far is the airport?
About 30 km by road from Clobek Crown Estate. On Google Maps the drive read 48 minutes by car on a weekday evening, so plan on 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. The Central Business District is about 19 km away, 20 to 25 minutes off-peak.
One warning for the rainy season. Heavy rain flooded the Lugbe-Airport Road on the night of 1 September 2026 and left motorists stranded. On a day of heavy rain, leave for your flight early.
Why the estate matters
Ask around about Lugbe and you will hear it called a cheap part of town. Parts of it are. Your stay depends on the street and the estate you are in, so look at those before you look at the district. Our Lugbe apartment is at 14 Bethel Lane, Clobek Crown Estate.
Power is the other thing to check. A planned outage in May 2026 cut the public supply to Lugbe and the Airport Road for longer than promised. Our Lugbe apartment lists 24-hour electricity, along with 24-hour security and secure parking.
Near Dunamis Glory Dome
The apartment is close to Dunamis International Gospel Centre Glory Dome. If you are in Abuja for a programme there, staying in Lugbe keeps you off the city roads before and after the service.
